About MSK

Welcome to Middle School of the Kennebunks(MSK)!  If you are looking for a high performing school, where your child will build meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers in an inclusive environment, you have found it.  Our beautiful school is a part of Regional School Unit 21 and welcomes students from Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.  Located on 22 acres of pristine land in Kennebunk, Maine, our school supports the school district’s mission of “Developing Productive Global Citizens by Building Knowledge and Character.”

MSK prides itself on providing a safe, inclusive learning environment where all students are valued and respected.  We strive to provide students with an engaging curriculum that enables every student to grow personally and academically, working to reach their full potential as productive global citizens.  We accomplish this by ensuring that each child feels welcome and comfortable within their school environment.  Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to build relationships with each student, supporting their unique, individual needs throughout their time at MSK.

Serving grades six through eight, students in each grade are split into two teams where they will be assigned an advisor.  That trusted adult will meet daily with your child to provide them with support and guidance throughout the school year.  Additionally, each child will work closely with a school counselor to help them prosper academically, socially and emotionally.  It is truly a team effort here at MSK to ensure each child has every opportunity to thrive.

While participating in our strong academic program, students will be inspired by project-based teaching and learning that has them go out into the southern Maine and greater Boston area to experience learning by doing.  Grade six students rave about the opportunity to build a solar car and race against their peers, as well as working with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.  Grade seven students love the experience of spending a week at The Leadership School at Camp Kieve and the annual field trip to Boston to experience different cultures in the city.  Lastly, our grade 8 students tour colleges, study United States history on the Freedom Trail, and of course, participate in our annual boat trip in Casco Bay.  All in all, your child will thrive as they take part in the varied learning experience at Middle School of the Kennebunks.

At MSK, students will take part in the core content classes of language arts, math, science and social studies.  In grades 7 & 8, French and Spanish are also core content classes.  In addition to these core content classes, we offer a multitude of allied arts classes to enrich each student’s experience.  Students may choose from physical education, health, band, chorus, music variety pack, STEM, design shop, art, art and technology and in grade 6, French or Spanish.  The wide variety of allied arts classes allows for each child to have a varied learning experience, with numerous class choices to meet the unique needs of every student.

Technology has a large presence at our school, with each child having their own Chromebook device assigned to them.  Additionally, each of our classrooms are equipped with a large interactive whiteboard and we have the Swift Center, an Apple computer center that gives students access to the Apple platform as they work in the area of graphic design and video based projects.  Whatever it is that interests your child, we have it at MSK.
